Description	:	William Henry "Billy" Thomas, Jr., 92, of Murrells Inlet, SC, died Wednesday, September 28, 2016, in Waccamaw regional hospital. Mr. Thomas was born August 3, 1924, in Georgetown, a son of William Henry Thomas and Emma Beaty Thomas. He grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School as President of his class. Read More	William Henry "Billy" Thomas, Jr., 92, of Murrells Inlet, SC, died Wednesday, September 28, 2016, in Waccamaw regional hospital. Mr. Thomas was born August 3, 1924, in Georgetown, a son of William Henry Thomas and Emma Beaty Thomas. He grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School as President of his class. He attended The Citadel until World War II when his entire class was sent to fight in that war. He served with the 25th Infantry Division in Guadalcanal and in the liberation of the Philippines, where he was wounded. He received the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, and campaign medals. After the war he traveled with various corporate businesses until he settled in Georgetown as owner, and later a partner with Sam Walters, in Terminal Oil Exxon distributorship He was survived by his wife, Miriam Parsons Thomas; five sons, Lora Burns Thomas, William H. (Ginger) Thomas, III, Robert B. Thomas, Steven C. Thomas, and David B. Thomas; a step-daughter, Barbara B. Roehrig; grandchildren Capt. William Beaty (Angela) Thomas (three great-grandchildren) and Lora Thomas, both Citadel Graduates; and many other family members from the Parsons family. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret "Peggy" Thomas. Funeral services were Saturday, October 8, 2016, in Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. Inurnment followed in Elmwood Cemetery Annex in Georgetown. Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ------------ Note: First "son" appears to be name of first wife. --RDL ------------
