Galloway, at Granite Street, Port Macquarie, early on Wednesday night, August 27. The late Mr. Campbell was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Campbell, and was born at Dumaresq Island, Manning River, where he spent his early childhood. His father and mother both died when be was very young and he went to live at Taree Estate with Mr. H.Flett, who died recently, in his nineties. Deceased worked for the late Mr. Flett for many years. His sisters and brothers, Katherine (Mrs. Scot Galloway, Merewether), Susan (Mrs. P. Day, Sydney), Margaret (Mrs. Patfield, Sydney), Elizabeth (Mrs. J. R. Glemaker, U.S.A.), and George (Raymond Terrace), went to live with their uncle, Mr. Fred Campbell, a school teacher, of Sydney. The late Mr. Campbell married Miss Jane Cowan, at Taree, and there were four children of the marriage, viz., Clare (Mrs. Frazer, deceased), Constance (Mrs. C. Galloway, Port Mccquarie), Brenda (Mrs. R. Mclntosh, Sydney), and Fred (Williamstown). There is one granddaughter, Marlene Mclntosh, of Sydney. Deceased's wife died many years ago, when the children were very young. Deceased moved to Newcastle, where he successfully trained race horses, the best of which, D.H.P., won many races in the Newcastle district. Deceased later obtained a position in the N.S.W. Aerated Waters factory and worked there for ten years. In 1928, he went to work for his son-in-law the late Mr. Percy Galloway, at the time a butcher at Telegraph Point. Following this, he moved with his son-in-law and daughter to Rawdon Island, where he lived for about 17 years on a farm rented from the estate of the late Henry St. John. About two and a half years ago, with his daughter, Mrs. C. Galloway, and grandsons, Ken, Barry and Bruce, he moved to Port Macquarie, where he spent the remainder of his days. The late Mr. Campbell was a great lover of horses and was a friend from childhood of the late Richard Wooten, whom many claim to be one of the best judges of a thoroughbred in Australia; also Mr. E. F. Smith, for whom his son, Fred, has worked for 25 years. Mr. Smith was the owner trainer of Donald, who won two Summer Cups and many other races, and was narrowly beaten for third in the Melbourne Cup won by Phar Lap. After a short service conducted at Mr. F. Hayward's parlour, deceased was buried in the Church of England portion of Port Macquarie cemetery, Canon Gerry officiating at the parlour and at the graveside.
