Description : William Henry Friesel enlisted at the age of 16 along with his brother John (about 14)in the Union Army during the Civil War. He saw the Battles of Bull Run, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg and lived to age 99. He was wounded at Gettysburg and taken to Libby Prison, where he endured "deplorable conditions", yet lived to see his release and with others, shook the hand of Abraham Lincoln, who wanted to thank the Union prisoners of war for their service. This was his proudest moment, according to family stories.
