Henry "Hank" Wakeman, long time resident of Johnson County, died Monday, April 6, 1942, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hadley Proffitt, at Paxton, this state. The infirmaties of his advanced age were given as the cause of death. His age was eighty-two years, nine months and six days. Henry Wakeman, son of William and Anna (Matthews) Wakeman Sr.., was born June 30, 1859, at Depere, Wis., and lived in that city and Oshkosh, Wis., until 1871 when he came to Nebraska. Mr. Wakeman attended public school and high school in this county and on June 18, 1879, he was married to Miss Annie Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jones of Helena precinct, and the couple settled on a farm near Cook. Mr. and Mrs. Wakeman moved to Colby, Kans., in 1885 and spent six years there, going to Oshkosh, Wis., in 1891 where they resided for three and one-half years before returing to Cook where Mr. Wakeman conducted a meat market for sixteen years. He operated a meat market in Tecumseh for a short time and he and his wife moved from here to Thune, this state, and made their home in that community until they went to Paxton to make their home with their daughter. Mrs. Wakeman died there April 2, 1937. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wakeman, one, Ralph O. Wakeman, having died some years ago. The surviving children are Alfred W. Wakeman of Omaha, Albert F. Wakeman of Thune, Mrs. Mayme Proffitt of Paxton and Jesse D. Wakeman of North Hollywood, Cal. Mr. Wakeman is also survivied by a sister, Mrs. Clara Bell of Oklahoma City, Okla., and many nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives. Mr. Wakeman was a member of the Methodist Church at Cook and was affiliated with the Modern Woodmen and Masonic Lodges. The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, April 9, at the Cook Methodist Church and interment will be in the Cook cemetery.
