William Henry Harrison was born near Princeville, Ill., April 3, 1838, and died July 3, 1921, at the age of 83 years and 3 months. He had been in poor health all winter. The deceased went to Galva, Ill., in 1858. January 23, 1860, he was married to Orpha Ann Carroll [Carrell]. Ten children were born to this union, one dying in infancy, 59 years ago, and nine children are living, three sons and six daughters, as follows; Elmer E. Harrison, Seattle, Wash.; Misses Belle and Pearl Harrison, Los Angeles, Cal., Walter Harrison, Pueblo, Colo.; Mrs. [Mary Elizabeth] H[arry] C[ross] Loudenbeck, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Harry C. Harrison, Creston, Iowa; Mrs. [Frances Ellen] Frank H. Hitchcock, Franklin, Pa.; Mrs. [Charity] Clifton Topham, near Fresno Cal.; Mrs. [Evelyn] E[lmer]E.Kinkade, Cromwell, Iowa. Mr. Harrison and family moved from Galva, Ill., on a farm south of Cromwell in the spring of 1875, where they lived until 1904, when they moved to Cromwell. For the past few years Mr. and Mrs. Harrison have been making their home with their children, having made many trips from coast to coast. They made a visit here last fall on their way from Pittsburg, Pa.; to California. January 23, 1920, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Mrs. H. C. Louddnbeck [Loudenbeck], at Pittsburgh, Pa. Mr. Harrison united with the Methodist church in Illinois at an early age and for a good many years he has been a member of the Cromwell Congregational church and was a member at the time of his death. He leaves besides his aged wife, and children, 18 grandchildren, and one sister in California, besides a host of friends. The remains were brought to Cromwell and the funeral was held in the Congregational church Saturday afternoon [July 9] at 3 o'clock. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Samuel Hitchcock, of Williston, N.D., a former Cromwell pastor, and who was called to attend the funeral of his father [Lucius Hitchcock], the week before. He was assisted by Rev. S. L. Unger, pastor of the church. The music was rendered by a quartet, composed of Mrs. Dorothy Henry, Miss Josephine Sutton, Will Smith and E. O. Polson, with Miss Mae Kinkade as pianist. The pal [sic] bearers were James Brown, E. N. Dougherty and W. W. Burns, of Creston, and W. J. Colbert, W. S. Mills and C. E. Ours, of Cromwell. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The interment was made in the Maple Hill cemetery [aka Cromwell Cemetery]. Six of the children with the wife were present at the funeral. They were Miss Belle Harrison, Los Angeles; Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Loudenbeck, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Walter S. Harrison, Pueblo, Colo.; Mrs. Frank H. Hitchcock, Franklin, Pa.; H.C. Harrison and family, of Creston; Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Kinkade, Cromwell. Among the friends from abroad were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hall, a nephew, from Lone Tree, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Braun of Prescott; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Burns, Mrs. C. H. Thomas, Richard Brown, Howard Brown, James Brown, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Foquer, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Forquer, Mrs. M. E. Bacon, Mrs. L. L. Goole, Mrs. D. J. Gibbons, Mrs. T. S. H. Dougherty, Mrs. Hiram Webb, D. H. Brooks, Mrs. Stella Franklin, Mrs. Charles Dean and her daughter, Miss Alice Randolph, E. N. Dougherty, Ed Lervis, Mrs. Fannie Zollars, Mr. and Mrs. William Kinkade, all of Creston; Mrs. Marie Brooks, Centerville. The relatives have the sympathy of the community. Thus another old settler has passed away. They are going fast." The remains will be brought here for interment and are expected to arrive Friday [July 8]." END "Adams County Free Press" (Corning, Iowa) July 16, 1921 (Saturday) Page 10, Column 3 in the "Cromwell" Column "Funeral services were held Saturday after noon [sic] [July 9] at the Congregational church [in Cromwell] over the remains of W[illiam] H[enry] Harrison who passed away at the home of a daughter [Mrs. [Charity] Clifton Topham] at Fresno, Calif. The services were conducted by Rev. Sam Hitchcock of Williston, N.Dakota and was attended by many old time neighbors and friends of the deceased and family. The singing was rendered by a quartette composed of Mrs. Dorothy Henry and Josephine Sutton, Will Smith and E. O. Polson. Those acting as pall bearers were: James Brown, Will Colbert, W. W. Burns, C. E. Ours, W. S. Mills and E. N. Daugherty. The floral offerings were abundant and very beautiful. At the close of the services the remains were taken to Maple Hill cemetery [aka Cromwell Cemetery] for interment. William Henry Harrison was born at Princeville, Ill., April 3, 1838, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clifton Topham July 3, 1921, aged 83 years, 3 months. He was married January 23, 1860 to Orpha Ann Carroll [Carrell]. To this union nine children were born who with the wife survive him. They are E[lmer] E. Harrison of Seattle, Wash., Misses Belle and Pearl Harrison of Los Angeles, Calif., Walter Harrison of Pueblo, Colo.; Mrs. [Mary Elizabeth] H[arry] C[ross] Loudenbeck of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Mrs. [Charity] Clifton Topham of Fresno [Friant] Calif.; Mrs. [Frances Ellen] Frank Hitchcock of Franklin, Pa.;.H[arry] C. Harrison of , Creston and Mrs. [Evelyn] E[lmer]E.Kinkade of this vicinity, all of whom attended the funeral services excepting E. E. Harrison, Miss Pearl Harrison, [and] Mrs. Clifton Topham. The deceased and family lived here for about 30 years and was well and favorably known. His children were reared to manhood and womanhood here and the sympathy of the community goes to the surviving members of the family in their hour of bereavement." END.
