The deceased was born in Canfield, Ohio, July 11, 1840. At the age of 9 years he came to Iowa with his parents who located at Mt. Pleasant. In the spring of 1860 they moved to Clay, Washington county. In September 1861 Henry responded to his country's call, enlisting in the Second Iowa Cavalry and serving three years. February 15, 1865, he was united in marriage to Harriet Alexander. In 1869 they moved to Casey and located on the site which is the present homestead. Mr. Jobes was the father of three children, two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Simmons and Mrs. Rosa Knox, and one son, Fred H., all of whom reside in Casey. Henry was a charter member of Stanfield Post and was always as loyal to all to all its duties as he was to his country in the 60's. He was also a member of the Presbyterian church. He was a devoted husband and father, obliging neighbor and good citizen. Early in January Mr. Jobes was taken with a severe attack of the grippe which developed into a nervous trouble affecting the brain to such an extent that it was finally decided by the attending physician and those called in consultation that the only hope was to place him where he could have such treatment as his disease demanded. So about three weeks ago he was taken to Clarinda. On Saturday last, Mrs. Jobes received a letter from the Superintendent containing much encouragement, saying that they thought that he would be able to return after a time. So that the blow came doubly hard when the dispatch containing the news of his sudden death was received. J. H. Simmons went to Clarinda Wednesday and returned last evening with the remains. The funeral occurred today at the home at 10:30 a.m., conducted by the G.A.R. as had been his request at the beginning of his sickness. Guthrian, Guthrie Center, Iowa, Thur, March 28, 1901
