Deceased was a native of Loudon County, Va., but came to Mo. at an early day and settled in Shelby soon after its organization as a county. Consequently he was one of its oldest citizens. Being energetic and public spirited he contributed very much in early life to the growth ad improvement of his county but as years rolled on his large family and its interests and his private business occupied his time to the exclusion of almost everything else. Never anything but a framer he was a very intelligent one. Reading carefully all of the current news of the day he was always well informed in regard to what was transpiring in the great and busy world. Indulging in no small talk he was not so popular among all classes as some others, but to the cultivated and intelligent he was ever pleasant company. Leading a long and active life at a ripe age he lay down the burden of life and we trust that our loss is his gain.
