Description	:	Civil War Veteran News reached this office yesterday morning of the death of Wm. Payne of near San Pierre at the age of 74 years. His death was rather unexpected as he had been sick but a short time. Some days ago he was taken ill with pneumonia and expired last Tuesday night. Mr. Payne was well known in these parts. He leaves five sons, Gilbert, John, Joseph, William, and Samuel and four daughters, Mrs. Chas. Repogle, Mrs. Wm. Kuester, Mrs. Wm. McCune and Mrs. Arthur White. He leaves five sons, Gilbert, John, Joseph, William, and Samuel and four daughters, Mrs. Chas. Repogle, Mrs. Wm. Kuester, Mrs. Wm. McCune and Mrs. Arthur White. His wife died about twenty-five years ago. Arrangements have not been made in regard to funeral services. Published in the North Judson News (North Judson, IN), on Thursday, February 8, 1906, pg. 1. ~~~ Obituary. William H. Payne was born in Union county, Ohio, December 23, 1831. Died at his home near Wheatfield, Feb. 7, 1906, aged seventy-four years, one month and fifteen days. He immigrated to Indiana in 1860. He joined the Union army in 1863 and served his country until the close of the war in an Indiana regiment. For over forty years he was a resident of Railroad Township and served two terms as trustee. Deceased leaves five sons and four daughters who survive him, viz: Mrs. Sarah McCune of Wabash, Ind., Mrs. Kittie Kuester Mrs. Lizzie White and Mrs. Ella Replogle of North Judson, W. E. and Sam Payne of Wheatfield, Gilbert and Joseph of North Judson and John F. Payne of San Pierre, who with a host of friends deeply deplore his loss. All of his children were at his bed side at his dissolution.
