HIBBETS William Hibbets, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hibbets, was born in the western part of Iowa, Aug. 4, 1889. In later years, he moved with his parents to a farm near Columbia and here developed into strong manhood surrounded by friends. Here also he began to consider the greater responsibilities of life and man's duty toward God and fellow man and accordingly consecrated himself to a life of Christian service, uniting with the M. E. church at Columbia. Neighboring churches received the benefit of his labors, and are ready to bear witness as to his consecration and ability. On September 24th, 1914, he was united in marriage to Miss Lura Wilson and together they took up the varied duties of farm life on the Hiram Wilson farm in English township. Energetic, ambitious and with faith in the future, they were laying the foundation of prosperity, and a life of usefulness. But, their hopes were suddenly shattered when on Nov. 11 the young husband was stricken with appendicitis and an operation gave the only hope of saving life. The operation was performed at the Yocom hospital on the following Saturday but his condition was so serious that no hopes of recovery could be entertained and in the early morn of Sunday, Nov. 21st, he passed into that land so shrouded in mystery but fondly cherished as the final reward of the faithful. Previous to his death he made preparations for his funeral and burial, bade farewell to the loving wife and with calmness and faith awaited the end. On Monday the remains were taken to the Cain church where appropriate services were conducted by Rev. Tague of Attica and in the nearby cemetery friends and loved ones laid to rest the silent form of one who had endeavored to be true to the higher ideal of manhood, and whose success was measured by the esteem in which he was held by those who knew him. Will leaves to mourn his early demise his parents, brothers and sisters. But to the young wife the burden of grief comes with overwhelming weight. It is her home that is broken. Her plans must be made anew, but she must now plan, without the aid of the one with whom she had learned to council, and only as memory brings afresh to her mind their mutual hopes and ambitions can she realize the helpful influence of the companionship so quickly broken. In their sad hour the sympathy of friends is extended and loving hearts are prompting deeds of kindness, but the sweetest solace is the recollection of the Christian fortitude and the loving farewells of the departed loved one.
