(Source: Hamilton County, NE Marriage Records) ================================== The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, September 7, 1933 William Hughes England was born July 24, 1844, near Calvert, Md., and died September 4, 1833 (sic), at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.W. McCutchan, in Nelson, Nebraska; aged 89 years, 1 month and 11 days. He lived in Maryland until 1865, when he moved to Edinburg, Indiana. He served an apprenticeship at carpentering while in Indiana which trade he followed the twelve years he lived in that state. He married Mary Poole and to this union three daughters were born, Arabella B., Mary and Laura. This wife died in 1877. Mr England came to Nebraska in the autumn of 1877. Shortly after arriving in this state, Arabella sickened and died. The other girls grew to womanhood and married. Mary became the wife of W.W. McCutchan with whom he has made his home the last twenty years. He was married a second time to Catherine Thompson December 6, 1893. She died August 15, 1899. He was a member of the M.E. church (sic) and the A.F. & A.M. lodge. He leaves to mourn his loss two daughters: Mary McCutchan of Nelson, Nebr., and Laura Gillette of Oregon. There are twelve grandchildren and great grand children, and one brother, Henry England of Phillips, Nebraska, besides many friends and relatives. A short funeral service was held at the McCutchan home Wednesday morning, conducted by the Rev. E.V. Price, after which the remains were taken to Phillips by Albert Klawitter. F.E. Bottenfield, Dewey Long, W.C. Hall, Fred Adkins, Art Childers and M.F. Long were pallbearers and accompanied the funeral party to Phillips. Services were held at that place in the church, and the Masons conducted the last rites as prescribed by their ritual at the grave.
