Liermann, who took great pride in improving his ranch and Hereford cattle, liked to refer to them as, "God's and ours," or that he was "taking Jesus with him to work today." His pet hates were junk mail, fences that needed mending, deep snow and ornery cattle, especially a mother cow that wouldn't love her newborn baby. He also enjoyed visiting with friends, either over a pitch game or by phone and at the time of his death was sitting and chatting with a friend. St. Paul's Lutheran church in Chambers was filled to capacity Tuesday for his funeral conducted by the Reverend Verl E. Gunter. Music was by the church choir accompanied by Mrs. Don Hoffman, organist. Burial was in the Chambers Cemetery. Pall bearers were Dale Doolittle, Roger Kelley, Don Dexter, Dennis Murphy, Darrell White, and Duane Shermer. Honorary pall bearers were Hank Whitcomb, Harlan Dierking, Jim Bilstein, Dale Phillips, Bill Wolcott, Con Erickson, Lyman White, James Wiley, Vern Thompson, and Bob Lemmer. His father, Ira W. Liermann, preceded him in death. William Ira Liermann was born August 1, 1935, in Burwell to Ira and Lillie Liermann. He spent his entire life on the ranch where he resided at the time of his death. He attended rural school in Holt County and was graduated from Burwell High School in 1953. He and Shirley Jean Svoboda were married on June 1, 1958, and four children were born to the couple.
