At the age of two years, he moved with his parents to Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. The earlier part of his life he spent teaching school. In the year 1859, he was united in marriage to Margaret E. Roff at Fredonia, New York. To this union were born ten children, Sherman W. of Chicago, Ill.; Edward L., who died in infancy; Franklin L., who died twenty-five years ago, at Enid, Okla.; Mrs. Mary E. Hoover who died nineteen years ago at Grand Island, Nebr.; Mrs. Gertrude E., Hoffa of Grand Island, Nebr.; Mrs. Cora A. Carter of Ericson, Nebr.; Herbert L. of Denver, Colo.; Charles F. who died at the age of one year; Mrs. Ella M. Reynolds of Dannebrog, Nebr.; and Charles B. of Dannebrog, Nebr. In the year 1878, he moved with his family to Marice county, Missouri. He came to Howard county, Nebr. In 1883, where he took a homestead, and endured many hardships of the early pioneers. There he lived up to the time of his wife's death, which occurred nearly twenty years ago. Since that time, he has made his home with his youngest daughter, Mrs. R. B. Reynolds, whose home adjoins the old homestead. Until very recently, Mr. Meader has enjoyed excellent health. On May 4, 1926, he passed peacefully away, after a brief illness, and was laid to rest by the side of his wife in Oak Ridge Cemetery at Dannebrog, on Friday, May 7. Mr. Meader leaves to mourn his loss six children, one brother, twenty grad children and thirteen great grandchildren, besides his many friends. The funeral took place from the home on Friday, May 7, at 1:30 o'clock, where Rev. Hamlyn spoke briefly and offered prayer. At 2 o'clock service was held in the Baptist Church, where the pastor spoke from 1 Peter 3:10, on the blessing of long life. The quartette sang several beautiful songs during the service. May the Lord bless and comfort the bereaved family, is the prayer of the many friends in the community. ****** Grand Island Herald, published in Grand Island, Nebraska Thursday, 6 May 1926, page 4 W. L. Meeder [sic], aged 95, residing six miles southeast of Dannebrog, father of Mrs. M. M. Hoffa, of this city, passed away at the home of his daughter Mrs. R. B. Reynolds yesterday after a brief illness. His wife preceded him in death twenty years ago. He is survived by three other daughters and three sons.
