Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Saturday, 6 February 1915, page 1 BODY OF MAN FOUND NEAR CAIRO The body of William Brayton, a farmer residing on the W. B. Waite place two miles west of Cairo, and along the Burlington tracks, was discovered at 7 o'clock this morning, lying along the tracks and about a mile west of town and nine feet from the rails. At first it was supposed that he was caught in the storm, but examination of the body revealed that he had been struck by a train. . . Mr. Brayton came to the village of Cairo yesterday afternoon at 2:10 leaving his home with Miss Edna Nielsen, a school teacher, who teaches in the neighborhood about 1 o'clock. After being in town about two hours he left for his home up the tracks after 4 o'clock. . . That was the last seen of Mr. Brayton alive. . . . William Brayton has lived in the locality west of Cairo for many years and is the son of A. Brayton, residing just past the county line in Buffalo county where he is one of the first homesteaders. The unfortunate man was over forty years of age and highly esteemed in the community. Besides the heart-broken wife he leaves a family of seven children, five of whom attend school. Imagine the anxiety of the mother of these little ones when the father did not return last evening with the telephone wires down and unable to secure any aid. Mr. Brayton formerly was a member of the Modern Woodmen lodge in Sod Town and probably is still a member of that order.
