Description	:	EAST PALESTINE -William J. Paes, Jr., "Bill," passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland with his family by his side. Bill was born Sept. 8, 1925, in New Middletown, the son of William Paes and Bessie Birch, and was the stepson of Molita Paes. He moved to East Palestine in 1963. Paes, Jr., "Bill," passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland with his family by his side. Bill was born Sept. 8, 1925, in New Middletown, the son of William Paes and Bessie Birch, and was the stepson of Molita Paes. He moved to East Palestine in 1963. A 1943 graduate of Springfield Township High School, Bill entered the Army at age 18, serving his country during World War II in Europe. After the service, he attended the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, Ill., and received his Doctor of Chiropractic's in 1949. He was a longtime loyal employee of Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company, retiring in 1980 and then working for East Fairfield Coal as a Scale Master until 1987. Bill loved playing cards and spent many afternoons at the East Palestine City Park with friends enjoying the games and the banter. He also liked playing golf and spent many winters in Jenson Beach, Fla., at Palm Circle Park. In the '60s Bill was a well known bowler in the East Palestine area and bowled a 724 set at Arrowhead. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 44 years, Anna McGuckin Paes, who preceded him in death Dec. 29, 2007. He was a loving father to his son, Terry Keresty of East Palestine, and his daughters, Shirley Glavan of East Palestine, Patty (Tony) Alan of Stuart, Fla., and Barbara Keresty of Madison, Wis. "Pap" will be truly missed by his grandchildren, Frank Ganoe of East Palestine, Sam (Trisha) Elliott of Jenson Beach, Fla., and Abby Elliott of Salt Lake City, Utah. He also leaves his great-grandchildren, Ciara Ganoe, Emma Elliott, Jack Elliott and Alexander Puccio; several nieces and nephews, and a brother-in-law, Don Evans of New Middletown. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Gloria Stacy, Ruth Shillinger and Margaret Evans. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in East Palestine and enjoyed the sermons of Bob Helbeck. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine, with Mr. Robert Helbeck, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the combined group from the American Legion and the VFW in East Palestine. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ Memorial Fund.
