Read More	Reverend William Jackson Row, 98, a retired Church of the Brethren minister who lived in Junior, died at 9:30 pm Sunday in the Elkins Convalescent Hospital following an illness of two months. Born In Rowtown (now known at Junior), October 28. 1876, 100 years after the signing of the Declaration of the Independence in 1776. He grew up in "Rowtown" which was named after his grandfather. One of Junior's most widely known citizens; Row lived alone in a nine-room house, raised his own garden every year, and baked his own bread until approximately two months ago when he was taken to the hospital suffering from a sore foot. Family members said he was still talking to them a few days ago. Although they knew his foot hurt, he did not complain of it very much until one morning when he got up, put on his best clothes, sat down on the front porch and pounded on the porch floor until a neighbor came to see what was wrong. "He told us then that he wanted to go to the hospital." Family members explained. They took him immediately, and he never saw his home again. He attended the one-room Hilliard School at Rowtown until he was 20 years old, and later went to two sessions of normal school at Belington. Row first taught school in a two-room schoolhouse in Junior in 1898. Later he became a "jack of all trades" and was particularly proud of his year –in, year-out "biggest gardens in town." Born in Junior on October 28, 1876, he was a son of the late William Alva and Sarah Elizabeth Coffman Row. He was married to the former Pearl Forrest Hayes who preceded him in death June 3, 1966. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ellice Coffman of Junior, Mrs. Elizabeth (E. G.) Rider of Waynesboro, Virginia, and Mrs. Clarice (C. O.) Cross of Washington, D.C.; three sons, Alva J. Row of Junior, Clifton Row of Washington, D.C. and Dr. Annon Row of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters, Zeta Spaid of Elkins and Gladys McNemar of Junior, one brother, Leonard H. Row of Rockville, Maryland; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Mr. Row was preceded in death by one daughter, two sons; and also five sisters, Cora, Ada, Mattie, Hallie and Nettie and two bothers, Golden Franklin and Freddie Row. He was retired Church of the Brethren minister.
