Read More	Thursday February 10, 1938 The Marion Sentinel William James Greer, 82, forty-five year resident of this county, died Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. February 9th at his home, 1385 Twelfth street, following a brief illness. He was born in Canada near the city of Hamilton, Ontario, July 7, 1855, and came with his parents to Iowa a babe in arms, the family settling near Sand Springs. Here he lived until his marriage, when he moved to a farm near Lyle, Minnesota. In 1892 he moved to a farm near Alburnett and lived there until 1900 when he came to Marion, and for several years was in the implement business as sales representative for the Oliver and International lines. Mr. Greer will long be remembered for his sturdiness of character, his strict integrity, his firm decisions. He was ever a good neighbor and good citizen. Early in life he joined the Reformed Presbyterian church and at the time of his marriage, he joined his wife as a member of the Methodist church and was always a faithful attendant and supporter. He is survived by his cherished wife and two sons, Shelton William of Houston, Texas and James Renwick of New Orleans. These busy sons were with him during his recent illness. A daughter, Chloe Greer Stocker, preceded him in death. He is also survived by four brothers and three sisters; Robert John of Charlotte, Michigan, Cameron K. of Monticello, George N. of Anaheim, California, Mrs. William H. Ensyn, Los Angeles, Miss Margaret Greer, Monticello, Mrs. Howard C. Irvine, Birmingham. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. from the Yocom chapel with Rev. E.T. Gough pastor of the Methodist church in charge. Burial will be in Oak Sade [sic] cemetery. Thursday February 17, 1938 The Marion Sentinel The funeral of the late W.J. Greer was held Friday at the Yocom chapel, in charge of Rev. E.T. Gough, pastor of the M.E. church, and burial was in Oak Shade cemetery. Among those from out of town, including near relatives were: Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Irvine and daughter of Birmingham, Mrs. Charles MacComber and Louis Willis of Cascade, Miss Margaret Greer of Monticello, Mr. and Mrs. C.K. Greer of Monticello, Mr. and Mrs. James Greer of Ames, Sheld Greer of Houston, Tex., R.J. Greer of Charlotte, Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mehaffey and family of North Liberty. The pallbearers were A.E. Blinks, J.T. Raymond, George Burns and Howard Moothart.
