Description	:	William had a identical twin Daniel W. Thornburg. William J. Thornburg lead a eventful life. He was constantly in trouble in York County South Carolina for selling liquor without a license. He and his father Joseph ran a distillery about a mile and a half from the York County courthouse. He was constantly in trouble in York County South Carolina for selling liquor without a license. He and his father Joseph ran a distillery about a mile and a half from the York County courthouse. He was charged many times for selling liquor without a license, carry concealed weapons, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill on a sheriff's deputy in York County South Carolina. In September 1888 a reward for $200 was placed on him and his twin brother Daniel for the murder of Lee Aderholdt at Carpenters Store near Cheryville North Carolina. His brother Daniel was captured and released when it was learned that he did not fire the shot. Daniel and William flee out west. They are believed to have spent time in Missouri, it is know that William and Daniel show up in Montanan around 1894. In 1895 William and Daniel were arrested in Ravalli County Montana. The Sheriff of Gaston County sent a telegram stating that he was sending officers with the warrants to bring them back to North Carolina. About a week later he decided that he didn't want the boys. Ravalli County Sheriff demanded payment for cost of housing them in jail. William was never brought to justice for shooting Aderholdt. William spent a couple of weeks in jail in 1896 in Ravalli County Montana for living in adultery with Sarah Rose. He was fined $50 and did not have the money to pay the fine. Sarah Rose was fined $10, she was able to pay the fine. William was married in 1899 to Sara Rose. He lived in Lemhi County Idaho for a while. He also lived in Stevens County Washington. It is know that some of his children were living in Gaston County North Carolina between 1910 and 1913. He moved back to Ravalli County Montana where he lived out the rest of his life. Update 10/02/2017 Middle name changed to James. A photo has been found that list his name as William James Thornburg.
