White, father of Roy A. White of this place, died at his home in Dix, Illinois, last Friday December 6. He had been in poor health for some time past and it seemed impossible to find anything that would give him relief. He was not, however, confined to his bed, death coming upon him suddenly, with no special warning. William J. White was born in Canada on February 20, 1847. When still a small child he immigrated with his parents to the United States, locating in Missouri where his early years were spent. About 45 years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ann Fredrick. This union was blessed with eight children, six of whom two sons, and four daughters, are still alive, as well as the faithful wife. In the summer of 1887 the family moved to this point, locating on a farm northeast of town where they made their home until eleven years ago when they removed to their present home in Dix, Illinois. But during his residence here he had become so attached to this country that it was his wish that at his death his body should be brought back to Wessington for interment, and in accordance with that wish his daughter, Mrs. Harvey Hurst brought the remains here. Because of delicate health Mrs. White could not make the trip herself. The older residents, especially those from the north country, will remember the deceased as a pleasant faced, kindly man, unobtrusive, yet ever ready to lend a helping hand. He was a member of the A.O.U.W. Lodge of this place and the member of that organization had charge of the funeral services which were conducted by Rev. Graham at the Presbyterian Church on Monday afternoon.
