Read More	THE CLARESHOLM FREE PRESS Claresholm, Alberta, Friday May 12 1933 GOLDEN WEDDING FOR CLARESHOLM COUPLE (as reported by the Cardston correspondent in the Lethbridge Herald) Fifty years of married life, and eleven children, 35 grandchildren and one great grandchild, most of whom were present on Sunday in Cardston at the home of Mr and Mrs Milton Hansen to do honor to their parents, Mr and Mrs William J Whitehead, whose golden wedding anniversary occurred on Monday, May 8th. For half a century the Whitehead family have escaped the hand of death, except for three times during the period, 10 of the 11 children being yet living, all married, seven sons and four daughters, the other two missing members being among the grandchildren. The Hansen home in Cardston was chosen as central for the family, although the honored couple spend much of their time in Claresholm where Mr Whitehead farms a large farm about three miles south of that town. They also own a lovely home in Cardston, but Mrs Whitehead's interests are mostly elsewhere, for he is a member of the Lethbridge Stake High Council and has been Bishop of the Claresholm ward until a few years ago, since 1912 four years after moving to Canada from Franklin, Idaho, where he built up his first home. Gaining his first experience in industry in the wooded canyons surrounding Franklin, Mr Whitehead early went into the cord-wood contracting business, supplying the mines at Butte and Anaconda with mine timbers. His estate, built up by his thrift and industry in Franklin, was a valuable asset to him when they decided to move to Canada, settling near Claresholm in 1908. Pioneering all his life , for he was the first child born in Franklin, Idaho. Mr Whitehead has established a name for himself wherever he has lived as a man of great physical strength, as well as possessing a sterling character. Mrs Whitehead, in every sense a helpmate to her husband, has stood by his side through all their varied experiences, caring for and rearing the family for long periods while he was away in the lumber camps or at work gaining a livelihood. Esther Ann Robinson Whitehead was born in American Fork, Utah, and not only in Franklin, Idaho but in Claresholm, Alberta, she has gained the love and respect of all who have met her, serving the communities where she lived unselfishly by saving many a mother in maternity cases in those pioneer days both in Idaho and Claresholm. Delightful in every respect was the family gathering at the Hansen Home in Cardston on Sunday. A sumptuous turkey dinner was served, an impromptu program by members of the family afterwards, and a lovely bouquet of roses and carnations presented to the bride, and the climax of all, a golden wedding ring presented to her by her husband with the regrets that it was fifty years late, but evidently it was as much appreciated as by many a blushing bride of twenty.
