Garrett, formerly of this city, were held at the Smith Funeral Home on North Columbus Street on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Comrade Garrett, who was 92 years of age was a veteran of the War of Rebellion, and served in Company F, 195th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. A week ago he fell and suffered a fracture of the hip which resulted in his death at the Hospital of the National Military Home, at Dayton, Ohio, on Sunday, January 26. The Christian Science Burial Services were impressively read byt Reader, A. B. Haller, and a beautiful solo, "There Is No Night There," was sweetly sung by Mrs. John Ziesler, with Mrs. Mildred Black Corneille as accompanist. Ben Butterfield Post No. 77, Grand Army of the Republic, of which the deceased was a member, went representatives bearing the large silken banner of the post. Their impressive ritualistic services for the dead were read by Post Commander William King. Quartermaster John Benadum and Officer of the Day, John Faigley, assisted the Reader, A.B. Haller and William Neal, of the Spanish War Veterans. A small silken flag, the evergreen wreath and red, white, and blue floral emblems of the order were placed upon the casket the Women's Relief Corps also furnished a silk burial flag. On account of the inclement weather and the age of the veterans, the firing of the salute at the grave was dispensed with, and the burial service was also read at the house. The eight surviving children of Mr. Garrett are scattered all over the United States from Florida to Oregon, and on account of distance and illness, only one daughter, Mrs. E.C. Woods, of Columbus, Ohio and one son, Minor Garrett, of this city, were able to be present a the funeral. A large number of grandchildren and other relatives were present, and pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased: Messrs: Frederick and Robert Reese, Elvan and Emory Altman and Paul and William Peach. Interment was made in Forest Rose Cemetery.
