Porter, 28, line foreman for the East Coast Utilities, was fatally injured at Montross, in the Northern Neck, about 10:30 Monday morning, and died at noon Tuesday in Johnston-Willis Hospital, Richmond, where he was taken following the accident which cost him his life. Mr. Porter had been employed by the East Coast for eight or nine years, and was most highly regarded by his employers and a host of friends, who were deeply shocked by his untimely passing. The fatal accident occurred when the boom of the construction truck on which Porter was working fell across his back, breaking several vertebrae and later causing hemorrhage in the brain, from which he died. He was rushed to Johnston-Willis Hospital immediately from the scene of the accident, where he was put in a cast by Dr. Page Mauck and later operated on by Dr. Coleman. The brain hemorrhage, however, proved fatal. The deceased is survived by his widow, who was Mrs. Jennie Rowe, a brother and a sister, Henderson Porter and Mrs. Gazelle Eubank, both of Kilmarnock. Funeral services were held at Abingdon Church Wednesday at 5 p.m., Rev. H. S. Osburn, rector of Abingdon, officiating. Active pall bearers were R. G. Farinholt, L. C. Pulley, E. W. Mullikin, L. V. Morgan, Walker Jones, George Tribble, T. R. Treakle and Phil Bray.
