Description	:	Bill was born on October 9, 1942, in Wesley, Iowa, the son of Donald and Hattie Mae (Benskin) Kinnaird He attended grade school in Searsboro and then later at Fairview in Grinnell. Read More	Bill was born on October 9, 1942, in Wesley, Iowa, the son of Donald and Hattie Mae (Benskin) Kinnaird He attended grade school in Searsboro and then later at Fairview in Grinnell. He graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1961. Bill enlisted is the US Air Force where he served for 4 years. Bill and Shirley (Eurom) Kinnaird were married on July 4, 1965. In 1968, Bill and Shirley moved to California where Bill worked for US Reduction and General Pump. In 1971 Bill and Shirley became parents of a son, Nicholas William Kinnaird. When he and his family moved back to Altoona in 1976, he worked for EDCO Manufacturing and DICO Manufacturing as a Purchasing Agent. His last job before retiring was as a Cargo Agent for United Airlines and Service Air at the Des Moines International Airport. An avid sports fan and all-around good athlete, when Bill wasn’t playing sports, he could be found rooting for his favorite teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the SF Giants Baseball Team, the LA Rams football team, and the LA Lakers basketball team. He realized his sports passion in school where he played basketball for the Grinnell Tigers. That passion evolved when he played league fast pitch baseball as the pitcher. His wife Shirley could always be found, cheering in the stands (nervously when all bases were loaded). When he moved to California, he continued to play with a fast pitch church league. Fast forward to his Altoona days where he was often found coaching little league girls’ softball. Bill was deeply devoted to his family. He often put his wife’s and son’s needs above his own. He enjoyed quality family time riding bikes, golfing, fishing, spending time with his furry companions Barry and Lexi, and found time for family vacations and holiday celebrations. During his later years, his declining health kept him from enjoying many of those activities, yet he held all of these memories close in his heart. Bill had the kindest soul while he also loved playing tricks on his family and close friends. The stories he would often spin left those around him perplexed as to their validity, until that big smile appeared. Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Kinnaird of Grimes; his son Nick Kinnaird of Altoona; siblings Earl Kinnaird (Pam) of Grinnell, Jerry Kinnaird (Pat) of Salina, KS; sister-in-laws Mertie Kinnaird, Dubuque, IL; Jean Kinnaird, Grinnell; Bev Stepp, Grinnell; brother-in-laws, Roger McCulley, Grinnell; Gary (Nina) Eurom Des Moines; aunt Barb Campbell, Cucamonga CA; 18 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. Bill died on Thursday, August 21, 2020 at Mercy Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Kinnaird and Hattie Mae White and five siblings, Donna Grovenburg, Wayne Kinnaird, Joan Moyer, Judy McCulley, and Wendell Kinnaird. No services will be held at this time due to COVID-19.
