Description	:	William John HALL was the first child born to John Thomas and Mary Jane HALL. He was born about 1859 in Ireland in County Armagh. His ancestors had lived in Corlust in Armagh for at least about 100 years before his birth . William John was named after both of his grandparents. At the age of 4, William John, along with his sister, Sarah Ann and his parents, emigrated to Australia aboard the Golden Empire, arriving in 1863. Read More	William John HALL was the first child born to John Thomas and Mary Jane HALL. He was born about 1859 in Ireland in County Armagh. His ancestors had lived in Corlust in Armagh for at least about 100 years before his birth . William John was named after both of his grandparents. At the age of 4, William John, along with his sister, Sarah Ann and his parents, emigrated to Australia aboard the Golden Empire, arriving in 1863. The family lived in Ipswich for a time and then bought land at Mutdapilly. On 5 June 1889 in the Wesleyan Church, Ellenborough Street, Ipswich, William John HALL, a 32 year old farmer of Birkwood, Queensland, married Eva Margaretha HERTRICH, a 22 year old domestic servant of Birkwood. They had 11 children, Margaret Jane, Mary Elizabeth (May), Sarah Ann, William, Jemima, Bessie, Agnes, Annie (died at 1 week of age), Jessie, James and Henry. William John donated land for the Mt Forbes School, which opened in 1896. Eva Margaretha nee HERTRICH died on 27 July 1918. William John died in 1942 (not 1922,as headstone shows) on his property at Mt Walker ref: obit in "Queensland Times" March 1942). He was found lying in a pool of blood, probably after being thrown from his horse. His grandchildren enjoyed many holidays on the farm with him and their aunts and uncles. They remembered he was a hard taskmaster - no one talked at the meal table. My father remembered his grandfather would pull out his own rotten teeth. He couldn't read and the grandchildren took turns in reading the "Queensland Times" to him.
