Description	:	From Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home: Funeral services for Bill Lubbers, 84, of Gregory, were held on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gregory. A wake service was held Thursday evening at 7:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at a later date. Read More	From Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home: Funeral services for Bill Lubbers, 84, of Gregory, were held on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gregory. William John Lubbers "Bill" was born November 2, 1925 in Burke, SD the son of Henry George and Emma Mary (Krussel) Lubbers. He attended country schools and then helped his father with farming. As a young man he took flying lessons and had his own plane. He loved to fly and kept a plane at the Gregory airport for many years. During World War II when he was called to serve it was found that he had tuberculosis and Bill spent 9 months in a sanatorium in the Black Hills of South Dakota. In the 60's, Bill moved with his parents from the farm to Gregory where they lived until the last two years of his life. He then moved across the street from his house to Silver Threads Senior Housing. He had watched the Housing being built but never thought he could live in a "fancy place" like that. He spent his last days at the Rosebud Country Care Center because of a major heart attack. During Bill's working years he worked at an airplane defense plant in San Diege, CA, at Karl's TV, Laprath's Hardware, attended barber school in Sioux City, Iowa and then worked in the Clementz Barber Shop where he had part ownership. He then became the custodian at the Gregory Grade School. After retiring from the grade school he drove a school bus and delivered meals on wheels. Bill also made and sold nozzles for insulation equipment which he had bought from his brother Dennis- who had invented the nozzle. He is survived by three brothers: Edmund Lubbers and wife Jenney of Firestone, CO, their son and two daughters and their families; Robert Lubbers and wife Elsie of White Pine, Michigan, their two sons and families; and Dennis Lubbers and wife Myrtle Ann of Burke, SD and their son and daughter and their families, and two sisters: Virginia and husband Louie Brozik of Yankton, SD and their two daughters and their families and Theresa and husband Darl Ellis of Iona, SD and their daughter and granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew Darl Arlyn "Junior" Ellis, a nephew John Alan Lubbers, and infant nephew of Virginia and Louie Brozik.
