Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. The Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. William John Runge, son of Henry and Emilie Lanz Runge, was born April 30, 1897, on a farm near Dewitt, Nebraska, in Saline County. He received his education at Plymouth, Nebraska, and Lincoln Business College, attending the latter from 1915 to 1917, then moved to a farm northeast of Holyoke. He entered the Army on August 7, 1918 and served for a little more than six months, receiving an honorable discharge on February 14, 1919. He then returned to Holyoke and resumed farming. He was united in marriage to Frances Kerchner on June 30, 1929, at the Holyoke Methodist Church. In 1949, Mr. and Mrs. Runge moved to the new home which they had built in Holyoke. Mr. Runge was elected Phillips County commissioner in 1956 and re-elected to that office in 1960. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, official board of the Methodist church, member of the local Selective Service board, past commander of the local American Legion Post, Colorado Consistory No. 1, Holyoke Order of Eastern Star, and Sterling chapter Royal Arch Masons. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances Runge; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Heist, Iliff, Colorado; his mother, Mrs. Emilie Runge, who is a patient at Ebenezer Nursing Home in Brush; and three nieces, Mrs. Shirley Klingsmith and Carol and Myrna Heist. Among those from a distance who were here to attend the funeral was Col. Howard Reed of Loveland, director of Selective Service in Colorado and a past president of the Colorado State Firemen's association.
