Description	:	WILLIAM was the son of Stephen Johnson and Mary (Kytle) Johnson. He married first Lucinda Ann Williams on November 11, 1845, in Carroll County, Tennessee. They were the parents of five children--Thomas S., Mary Elizabeth, John William, Fredonia, and James Tolbert Johnson. Lucinda passed away in September 1877. William married second Roan Dodd on November 7, 1878, in Carroll County, Tennessee. William's cousin, Nancy Johnson (who was the daughter of John Johnson a brother of Stephen Johnson), lived in William's household for about 50 years--first with William and Lucinda and then also with William... Read More	WILLIAM was the son of Stephen Johnson and Mary (Kytle) Johnson. He married first Lucinda Ann Williams on November 11, 1845, in Carroll County, Tennessee. They were the parents of five children--Thomas S., Mary Elizabeth, John William, Fredonia, and James Tolbert Johnson. Lucinda passed away in September 1877. William married second Roan Dodd on November 7, 1878, in Carroll County, Tennessee. William's cousin, Nancy Johnson (who was the daughter of John Johnson a brother of Stephen Johnson), lived in William's household for about 50 years--first with William and Lucinda and then also with William and Roan. William bequeathed $1,000.00 to Nancy in his Last Will and Testament. She passed away in 1915, having never married. The following obituary was found in THE CARROLL COUNTY DEMOCRAT newspaper, dated October 24, 1913, on file in the Gordon Browning Museum and Genealogical Library, located in McKenzie, Carroll County, Tennessee: "Wm. Johnson of Clarksburg, died at his home in that place last Monday night at one o'clock. Mr. Johnson has been in bad health for a long time, and a few weeks ago he fell, receiving injuries that kept him in bed the remainder of his life. This with the diseases incident to old age caused his death. He would have been 89 years old the 13th of next February, and during his day was one of the most prominent and useful citizens in the county. He was a man of high honor, great personal integrity, and lived a clean life, devoted to his people and to the good of those about him. His counsel was always sought and largely followed by the citizens of Clarksburg and community. He was a member of the Christian church and is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Jamison. Mr. Johnson lived as perfect a life as it is possible for one to live, no word of reproach ever being brought against his conduct. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held at his residence Tuesday, conducted by Elder Austin, of Henderson, assisted by Elder Abernathy of the Clarksburg community. A large crowd attended the funeral and much sorrow was expressed at the going out of so valuable a life. The burial occurred at Blair cemetery." The following obituary from The Gospel Advocate was contributed by Tom Childers: "William Johnson, commonly known as Uncle Bill Johnson, was born in South Carolina on January 13, 1825. When he was only two years old, his parents moved to West Tennessee and settled near Clarksburg, in Carroll County. This was his home until his death. When he was twenty-one years of age, he was married to Miss Lucinda Williams. To this union were born five children, all of whom are now dead, except Mrs. Elizabeth Jamison. One of these children was our lamented brother, John W. Johnson, whom many will remember as a faithful minister of the gospel. Brother Johnson also has seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. These all, together with his second wife, are now bereaved, because he was taken by the hand of death on October 21, 1913. It was my sad privilege to talk at Brother Johnson's funeral to say words of consolation to the great number of sorrowing friends and loved ones who met to pay a last tribute of respect to his memory. Brother Johnson was blessed with more than an average amount of this world's goods, but I am told that he was always ready to befriend the poor. He was a safe counselor in business and enjoyed the confidence and esteem of the whole community. He was a faithful soldier of the cross for fifty-five years before his death. This certainly is a splendid record for one lifetime. The influence of his Christian demeanor and godly walk will be felt by those acquainted with him long after these words of eulogy are forgotten. His life is an inspiration to us to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." --C. S. Austin.
