Description	:	William Johnson (Bill) Linkous, 77, of Lexington, died on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was born on December 31, 1936, in Blacksburg, Va., a son of the late Gilbert Franklin Linkous and Margaret Hall Linkous. Mr. Linkous attended the Lexington Presbyterian Church. Bill graduated from Virginia Tech and retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections after 43 years of service as the Chief of Operations. He also loved Virginia Tech athletics and playing golf. Surviving are his wife, Susan Swink Linkous, of Lexington, Va.; five children, Mark Linkous and wife, Lisa, of Botetourt County, Va., Elaine Hurlbut and husband, Tom ,of Virginia Beach, Va., April Timmons and husband, Toby, of Powhatan, Va., Amy Hammond and husband, Dave, of Chesterfield, Va., and Michael Friski Jr., of Lexington, Va.; one sister, Dorothy Robinson, of Texas; one brother, Gordon Linkous, of Fredericksburg; one aunt, Cora Dickerson, of Blacksburg, Va.; seven grandchildren; and his special canine, Maggie. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014, at Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg, Va. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Lexington Presbyterian Church with the Dr. William Klein officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bill to the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund, P.O. Box 10307, Blacksburg, VA 24062 or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Va. Published February 16, 2014, in the Roanoke Times
