Description	:	Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, Monday, November 18, 1912: "William Joseph Fitzpatrick, of Pekin, aged about 56 years, died yesterday, at the Allegany Hospital in Cumberland, after an illness of several weeks. He was taken to the hospital on Friday for an operation with the hope of prolonging his life. The deceased was a merchant and coal operator and is survived by his wife and several grown daughters." Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, Tuesday, November 19, 1912: "Lonaconing--The funeral of William Fitzpatrick, who died in a hospital at Cumberland last Mon, will take place from St. Gabriel's church, Barton, tomorrow at 9 A.M. Interment will be made in the Catholic cemetery below in Barton. William Fitzgerald(sic) will be missed in Pekin. He was a good man in every acceptation of the word. Honest, industrious and kindly. He had the esteem of all who knew him. Recently, he spent a great deal of money to re-open abandoned coalmines near Pekin. It was a brave venture, but William Fitzpatrick had worked long in the coalmines and he knew how to get out coal. His venture was successful, and had he lived he would have demonstrated that much of the abandoned coal which the theorists and the commercial course miners left behind them could be mined at a profit. His death is a loss to this community." Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, Wednesday, November 20, 1912: "Lonaconing--The funeral of William Fitzpatrick, of Pekin, took place this morning from St. Gabriel's Church, Barton. A requiem mass was sung and interment was made in St Gabriel's cemetery. Gustave Eichhorn, funeral director. It was the largest funeral seen in Pekin for many years. The friends of the dead man came from Cumberland, Frostburg, Lonaconing, Westernport and Piedmont, making a long procession."
