Description	:	William Joseph Freeze was born May 26, 1867, in Eyler's Valley, Frederick County, Maryland, the second of 13 children of George Washington Freeze and Savannah Elizabeth Eyler. He evidently had some kind of mental illness and died unmarried, just shy of 28 years of age. Read More	William Joseph Freeze was born May 26, 1867, in Eyler's Valley, Frederick County, Maryland, the second of 13 children of George Washington Freeze and Savannah Elizabeth Eyler. From the Frederick Daily News of Friday, December 24, 1886: "They Quarrelled. --William Freeze and Harry Smith, cousins, residing in Eyler's Valley, this county, quarrelled last week, when Smith cut Freeze on the wrist and across the abdomen with a knife, producing ugly wounds." From the Frederick Daily News of June 17, 1887: "Sent to Montevue. William Freeze, aged about 23 years, of Mechanicstown District, was yesterday committed to Montevue Hospital. He is suffering from acute mania caused by a sunstroke which he received when 17 years of age. He was an inmate of the hospital from the time he received the sunstroke until a year ago when he was discharged, as it was then thought he was entirely cured. A return of the malady compelled his return to the institution." From the Frederick Daily News of Monday, June 24, 1889: "A hearing in the lunacy case of William J. Freeze of Mechanicstown, will take place tomorrow at noon before the court andjury at the CourtHouse." From the Frederick Daily News of Tuesday, June 25, 1889: "Lunacy Case. A de lunatico inquirendo case occupied the attention of Judge Lynch in the court room today. The petition charged William J. Freeze, of Mechanicstown District, with being insane. The jury after the hearing the testimony of a number of witnesses rendered a verdict that he was still insane, where upon the court passed the followingorder. Having been in these proceedings declared insane, it is therefore by the circuit court of Frederick County ordered and directed, that the said William J. Freeze be confined in the alms house of this county, there to remain at the expense of Frederick County until he shall have recovered his reason and be discharged by the further order ofthis court." From othe Frederick Daily News of Thursday, October 2, 1890: "--William Freeze, a resident of Hauver's District, who had been an inmate of Montevue Hospital, was released yesterday by the court." From the Frederick News of Saturday, July 30, 1892: "A Sad Case. Says the Mechanicstown Clarion: Excitement was occasioned on our streets on Tuesday evening by the arrival of a wagon in which William, son of Mr. George Freeze, of Eyler's Valley, was bound demented. His peculiar cry soon collected a crowd, and when at its largest the horse became frightened at the noise made by Freeze and startedto run up the street. Two men had hold of him, one of whom was thrown down, the wagon passing over him. He was brought to a stop by the other, and a terrible disaster averted. He was taken to Montevue." From the Frederick Daily News of April 12, 1895: "The Orphans' Court. Letters of administration granted on the estate of William J. Freeze, deceased; William P. Eyler, administrator." From the Frederick Daily News of May 29, 1895: "Eyler's, May 29. ---During the past two months, death has called six from our midst to their last resting place. On April 4, William J. Freeze, of consumption, departed this life, aged 28 years, 7 months and 10 days."
