Description	:	Highland Recorder November 27, 1931 FORMER HIGHLAND MASON DIES Mr. William J. Maloy of White Springs, Florida, a native of Highland died in Florida suddenly, Friday last. Mr. Maloy was son of the late Patrick and Susan Layne Maloy, was born near McDowell, Highland County Va., August 7, 1865. He attended school at McDowell and also Roanoke College of Salem, Va., from which he graduated in 1888. Read More	Highland Recorder November 27, 1931 FORMER HIGHLAND MASON DIES Mr. William J. Maloy of White Springs, Florida, a native of Highland died in Florida suddenly, Friday last. Mr. Maloy was son of the late Patrick and Susan Layne Maloy, was born near McDowell, Highland County Va., August 7, 1865. He attended school at McDowell and also Roanoke College of Salem, Va., from which he graduated in 1888. After teaching four years in the schools of his native county, Mr. Maloy taught in some of the Southern states till 1905. In 1909 he graduated in pharmacy from the University of Atlanta, with the degree of Ph. D. He then went to Florida and operated prescription drug store for four or five years. In 1916 he was appointed Federal Narcotic inspector in that state, and continued in this service until March 1931 when he retired on account of failing health. In recognition of his service the Federal Narcotic Department had a special representative to attend Mr. Maloy’s funeral, Mr. L.C. Rocchiccioli of Roanoke, Va., and also sent a very beautiful floral design. The end came November 20, 1931, and his body was sent back to his old home for burial. The funeral which was very largely attended was held Tuesday morning Nov. 24th from the Presbyterian Church at McDowell, Va. conducted by the pastor, Rev. Lyle Moffett, assisted by the local Methodist minister, Rev. W.W. Stevens. Burial was in full charge of the Highland Masonic Lodge of which Mr. Maloy had formerly been a member.
