Description	:	William “Bill” Graf was born in Watertown, SD on February 15, 1928 to William and Emma (Kuhn) Graf. At age three the family moved to Brookings, SD where Bill attended school for 10 years. In 1944, the family moved back to Watertown. In, 1946, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served on the USCGC Mendota. He was honorably discharged in February 1948 due to his father passing away. Read More	William “Bill” Graf was born in Watertown, SD on February 15, 1928 to William and Emma (Kuhn) Graf. At age three the family moved to Brookings, SD where Bill attended school for 10 years. In 1944, the family moved back to Watertown. In, 1946, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served on the USCGC Mendota. He was honorably discharged in February 1948 due to his father passing away. Bill and his oldest brother Edward were partners at Graf’s Shoe Repair in Watertown. On July 10, 1951 Bill married Betty J. Lauseng. He continued to work with his brother until 1961. In 1961, Bill moved his family to Clear Lake and open up Bill’s Shoe Repair. Later he moved his business to the south end of Clear Lake and renamed it Bill’s Canvas & Shoe Repair. In 1984, he sold the shoe repair business and renamed the canvas part to Bill’s Canvas Shop. Bill worked many trades to support his family. He built homes with Jerry Dumke, worked out in Rapid City for two summers with Kenneth Weber at a second hand shop. He worked road construction and also drove school bus for 10 years. He also built grain bins for Quail Construction. Bill retired in 2016. Bill was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He loved to square dance and bowl in his younger years. He built remote controlled airplanes and flew them with friends. He loved camping, boating and hunting deer and pheasants. Bill passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the Deuel County Good Samaritan Society at the age of 89 years 10 months and 16 days. Bill is survived by his children; Charles (companion, Donna Mack) Graf, Clear Lake, SD, Cheryl (Steven) Rust, Bath, SD, Michael (Kari Muth) Graf, Toronto, SD; two grandchildren: Carrie (Robert Schert) Rust, Minneapolis, MN and Martin Rust, Bath, SD; two-step-grandchildren: Kurt Larson, Forestburg, SD and Kristina (Kevin) Schlenker, Woonsocket, SD; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; three brothers and two stillborn siblings. - Houseman Funeral Home
