Description	:	William Pike William Pike, aged 40 years, 8 months and 28 days, who was killed in the country mine near Mendota, Mo., Friday, December 28, was laid to rest Sunday afternoon, the funeral services being held at the home south of Cincinnati, at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by M. C. Besse. The accident, which resulted in his death, occurred while he was at work in the mine, in company with his son, Opal. C. Besse. The accident, which resulted in his death, occurred while he was at work in the mine, in company with his son, Opal. They were mining the coal for their own use, when a fall of rock caught the unfortunate man, breaking his neck and back, and fracturing the skull, causing instant death. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and eight children as follows: Opal, Leta, Marshall, Donna, Ola, Geneva, William and Neta, all at home. He also leaves three brothers: Abra, of Cincinnati; Oscar, of Cincinnati; Blaine, who is in the U.S. army, and located in the Philippines. Five sisters: Mrs. Cora Vestal, of Cincinnati; and Mrs. Ollie Archer of Oklahoma, who was unable at attend the funeral; Mrs. Lola Archer, of Des Moines; Mrs. Edith Murphy, of Exline; Mrs. Sylvia Myers, of Oklahoma, also absent; also his aged father and mother, Mrs. and Mrs. George Pike, who reside at Cincinnati. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Blevins, the latter an aunt of deceased, of Nebraska, were present for the funeral. Deceased had lived in and near Cincinnati for many years, where he was well and favorably known. He had been a consistent member of the Free Will Baptist church for about eight years, and had lived a Christian life for eighteen years. Those who knew him best regarded him as a true friend, and while he will be missed most in the home where he was a kind and loving husband and father, the community in general mourns the loss of a resident whom all regarded as a true friend to all.
