Read More	Stone reads: son of D&M THE DEATH OF WILLIAM LEE William Lee, of Stockwell, Indiana died January 19, 1881, at the advanced age of 79 years, 1 month and 2 days. He was born in Hamilton County, Ohio, December 17, 1803. He was married to Hannah Smith in the year of 1814; emigrated to this (Tippecanoe) County, Indiana, November 21, 1829, settling at first in Sheffield township. From thence he moved to Lafayette in 1834, of which place he made his residence until about 1840. While in the city he worked at his trade as a mason for some six years. He moved to Lauramie township, where he resided as a much esteemed, but very quiet citizen until his death. Disabled by age and infirmity he looked forward to death as a release, remarking, in answer to a question by the writer, all was well as to the future; that he had more than lived out the selected time of man, and knew no reason why he should remain longer. He was a student of the Bible, but aside from this his chief delight was found in reading the Republican papers. He cast his first vote in 1846, for President, since which time he never missed a Presidential election. In this he earnestly carried out his convictions and cast his last vote for President Garfield. Too old to serve his county by bearing arms, he nevertheless contributed to its maintenance by sustaining it, while his family was fully represented at the front. He was the father of eight children, one of whom died at four years of age. Mary, the oldest daughter, and now surviving widow of Nathan Bolen, who died in Lafayette in 1842; Capt. Smith Lee, ex-Auditor; Sarah Michaels, the widow of John B. Michaels, who died while in office in 1846; Lydia Barnum, wife of Lieut. B. F. Barnum, of the 11th Indiana Cavalry, now a resident of Texas; Mrs. Babcock, the former widow of Samuel Meredith, who died of cholera in 1849, but now a resident of Texas and wife of Willett Babcock; Misses Catherine and Clarissa Lee, yet single and residents of Stockwell, and nineteen grand children and thirteen great grand children now survive him as descendants.
