From Feb 5, 1947 to March 22, 1947, from and to San Francisco, CA, Bill, 5'9", 150 lbs., age 19, served as a Fireman W/T, for 1-1/2 yrs, aboard the ship, General A W Greely. Bill (23) was married on Sept. 15, 1950, First Presbyterian Church, Billings, MT, to Donna Jane Bly (19), born 1931, MN, d/o William G. Bly (1902 - Feb 6, 1990) & Frances Smith Bly (Frances was born May 4, 1912, ND - died Sept. 13, 2013, Billings, MT, at River Ridge Assisted Living, where she celebrated her 101st birthday). In 1956, Bill's parents, John & Jane, were listed in the Billings, MT, directory as a "Farmer" at 4045 Riverside Road, and at 4055 Riverside Road was William L. Germeraad, "Driver", with his wife, Donna (Bly) Germeraad. Bill Germeraad grew up on a ranch south of Billings, said his older sister, born 1919, Patricia Ann "Patti" Canaris, a watercolor artist known for nature paintings, birds and butterflies, also a plate artist, who lives in Hamilton, MT, south of Missoula. The seven Germeraad children had a wonderful childhood, enjoying the freedom to roam the ranch all day.
