King was born January 29, 1889, in Lake Twp., the son of Leonard C. and Mary (Schaab) King. Margaret was born Nov. 14, 1997, also in Lake Twp., the daughter of Sylvanus and Margaret (Lawler) VanZandt. William L. King and Margaret Van Zandt were married Feb. 6, 1912, in Muscatine county. They owned and operated a farm in Lake Township. Mr and Mrs King were members of St. Mary's Catholic church. They are survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Evelyn) Harper, Rt. 4, seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mr. King is survived by a brother, Lawrence King, Rt. 4. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Adams, West Liberty. Mr King was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Mrs King was preceded by four sisters and four brothers. The bodies are at the Riley funeral home where friends may call starting Tuesday afternoon. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday. MUSCATINE JOURNAL - Monday, April 9, 1973. Double funeral services for Mr and Mrs William King, 84 and 85 respectively, were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's church where a Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated by Rev. William O. Meyer, pastor. Mrs. Lillian Freund was organist. Altar boys were Greg Harper, Steve Lowe, Mandfred Leidel, and Brian Yerington. Interment was at St. Mary's cemetery under the direction of the Riley Funeral Home. Pallbearers were LeRoy King, Virgil Vetter, Carl Beatty, Charles Harper, Joseph Harper, and Tom Harper. Mr. King died at 9 a.m. Sunday and Mrs. King died at 9 a.m. Monday. Both deaths took place at Muscatine General hospital. MUSCATINE JOURNAL - Friday, April 13, 1973. Correction to obit: Mrs Mary Adams, West Liberty, was a sister to William L King. Margaret King was the last of a family of six sons and five daughters.
