He was born on Jan. 1, 1933, in Luray and was a son of the late James B. Rosser and Daisy Stoneburger Rosser. Major Rosser enlisted in the Army at age 17 and retired with 21 years of service. He was assigned to the 7th Army in Germany, 24th Infantry Division in Korea, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Jackson, various positions in the Pentagon, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, Commander of the U.S. Army Courier Transfer Station in New York, Administrative Officer to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Power Europe (SHAPE) Staff Programs Division and later as Liaison Officer to NATO in France, Commander of the 537th Personnel Services Company in Vietnam, and Assistant Chief of Staff, G-1, U.S. Army Recruiting Command. Surviving in addition to his wife of 62 years, Rita Level Rosser, are two sons, Gerald and Robert Rosser, both of Newport News; and one sister, Loretta Jewell of Luray. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Julius, Edwin, James, Gene, Robert and Thomas; and two sisters, Violet Wilson and Mildred Level. Inurnment with full military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
