Mr. Chamberlain was a member of Rochester's oldest family and had spent his life in this city. His great-great-uncle, Alexander CHAMBERLAIN, was the city's earliest resident and in 1835 founded the town of Rochester with Lot BOZARTH. Mr. Chamberlain's great-grandfather, Sylvester [CHAMBERLAIN], came shortly afterward to join his brother in business and the family has resided here since that early day. The present Chamberlain business was begun by Lynn's father, Jesse [CHAMBERLAIN], in 1912 and has been at its present location since 1920. It rcently underwent extensive remodeling and modernization under Lynn's direction. William Linely CHAMBERLAIN was born Sept. 11, 1907, in this city, the son of Jesse and Nellie WILLARD CHAMBERLAIN. He was married April 22, 1947 at Hartford City, to Laura FOY, who survives. He earned four battle stars in World War II as a member of the Air Force, serving in the European theatre with the Air Transport Service and Strategic Bombing Command. In this duty he continued a family tradition that has found Chamberlains serving in all the nation's wars since the French and Indian conflicts in 1775. Alexander was a War of 1812 veteran. Sylvester, and Lynn's grandfather, Chester [CHAMBERLAIN], both were Civil War veterans. The latter also served as postmaster here and as county recorder. Mr. Chamberlain was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts and of the Moose, Eagles and Elks lodges. Also surviving are two daughters, Chera Lynne and Jo Michele [CHAMBERLAIN]; and two sisters, Mrs. Sara "Sally" ZIMMERMAN, Rochester, and Mrs. Elgin (Bernice) GEBHART, Peru. Two brothers preceded in death, Willard [CHAMBERLAIN] in action during World War II and Claud "Toy" [CHAMBERLAIN] in 1961. Last rites will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. Graham MARSH officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, where the Legion and VFW will conduct military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday.
