"Times-News" (Cumberland, Md.), Thursday 9 January 2014: ‘Westernport, Md. – William L. ‘Barney' Jenkins, 92, of Westernport, died on Wednesdy 8 January 2014 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. He was born in Piedmont, W.Va., on 18 November 1921 and was the son of the late William L. Jenkins and Mary Loretta (Morgan) Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Thomas) Jenkins who died 27 October 2000. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Mary E. ‘Libby' Woy and Theresa Jenkins. Barney was an active member of Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Westernport. He graduated from Saint Peter's High School. He worked for a number of years for the Celanese Corporation in Cumberland. He retired from ABL in May 1983 with 23 years of service and worked in the Procurement Department. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of Victory Post 155, American Legion in Westernport and was a former member of the K. of C. Council 685 in Piedmont. He liked to listen to and play music. He was an avid Washington Redskins and Atlanta Braves fan. Barney is survived by his son, Greg Jenkins and wife Jeanetta of New Creek, W.Va; and two daughters, Janice Doolan and husband Jim of Westminster and Natalie Lafferty and husband Bob of Cumberland. He is also survived by his brother Joseph F. Jenkins and wife Norma of Fayetteville, Pa.; and his sister, Helen McGreevy of Westernport. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Laurie Doolan, Jeff Doolan and wife Kelly, Leslie Jenkins and Lynn Staggs and husband Rob; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, on Friday 10 January 2014 from 2 to 4 nd 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at Saint Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport at 11 a.m. with his nephew Monsignor Richard Woy as celebrant. Interment will be in Saint Peter's Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Veterans Honor Guard from Cumberland. The family requests that Memorials for their Dad be directed to Saint Peter's Catholic Church, 127 Church St., Westernport MD 21562."
