Notes from Richard Paul Culler: In the 1870 census, William was living with a John Brandenburg family in Jackson Township, Frederick County, Maryland. He was listed as, William Brandenburg, age 18, born in Maryland. (Note--I believe that this was just a mistake on the census taker part, and it should of read, William Culler.) In the 1910 census, William and his family were living in Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland. He was listed as, William Culler, a laborer, age 58, born in Maryland, and his wife, Jane age 54, born in Maryland, and their children still living at home were; Blanche age 21, and Lloyd age 17, both born in Maryland. In the 1920 census, William and his wife were living in Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland. He was listed as, William L. Culler, a farm laborer, age 68, born in Maryland, and his wife, Jennie R age 66, born in Maryland. In the 1930 census, William and his wife were still living in Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland. He was listed as, William L. Culler, retired, age 78, born in Maryland, and his wife, Jennie R. age 76, born in Maryland. From the Biographical Record of John M. Culler, in the History of Frederick County by T.J.C. Williams: William L. Culler, son of William and Alice (Brandenburg) Culler, and father of John M. Culler, was born in the Middletown Valley, December 25, 1851. He was educated in the public schools of Middletown District, and began farming when quite a young man. He was an excellent farmer and devoted his life to agricultural pursuits. After cultivating rented land for some time, Mr. Culler purchased a farm of 50 acres lying along the Harmony road. He has improved this property in every way and, by hard work and close attention to the needs of the soil, has brought the land to a high state of cultivation, and made the place known as one of the best small farms in the district. Mr. Culler is a Democrat, interested in all that concerns the good of the district. William L. Culler was married to Jennie R. WIles, daughter of Thomas Wiles, an old resident of the Middletown Valley. Their children are: George W., a carptenter of Middletown District, Alta V., married to Newton S. Bussard, a farmer of Middletown District, John M., Morris L., a farmer of Middletown District, Charles H. of Washington, D. C. Blanche, at home, Lloyd, at home. Mr. Culler and his wife are members of the Lutheran Church in Middletown. This was recorded in the Frederick Post, Maryland, December 28, 1934. Mr. and Mrs. William L. Culler observed the 60th anniversary of their marriage Monday at their home in Mlddletown. They were tendered a. dinner Sunday .by their children in honor of the unusual event. Mr. and Mrs. Culler are both natives of the Mlddletown vicinity and have spent their entire lives in Middletown valley. Mr. Culler Is aged 83 years and Mrs. Culler is 81 years old. They wore married at the Lutheraa parsonage, Middlctown, on December 24, 1874, the ceremony being performed by the late Rev. Dr. A. R. Stcck, who was then pastor of the church. The seven children, five sons and two daughters of the couple visited their parents on Sunday. Those who spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Culler were: George W. Culler, Frederick; Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Steck Bussard, northeast of Middlctown; Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Culler and son. J. M. CulLer, Jr.. Frederick; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice L. Culler and children, Paul, David and Ellen Rebecca, Kccdysvillc; Mr. and Mrs Charles Culler and son, Charles, Jr, Washington. D. C ; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Heffner, Frederick: Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd V. Culler and children, Irvin, Richard and Leon, Frederick; Miss Irma V. Biggs. Frederick; Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Tabor, Middletown. In addition to the above, the following grandchildren and greatgrandrhlldren also called at the home of Mr. and Mis. Culler on Sunday and extended congratulations: Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bussard, Mr. an£t Mrs. George Ropp and daughters. Helen, and Evelyn, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bussaid and son, and Earl Bussard. His obituary in the Frederick Post, Maryland, May 15, 1944. William L. Culler, a native of Middletown valley, died at Frederick City Hospital Saturday at 3 a.m. from complications. He was 92 years, 4 months, 25 days. The deceased is surived by two daughters, Mrs. Alta Bussard, of near Middletown, and Mrs. Blanche Heffner, of Frederick; four sons, George W. Culler, Lloyd V. Culler of Frederick, Charles Culler of Washington, and Maurice Culler of Boonsboro.; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The body is at the home of Mrs. Bussard, where Mr. Culler has resided since the death of his wife. Funeral services will take place from there this afternoon at two o'clock, with Donald F.
