William Lyle "Bill" Kendall, age 83, son of Carl and Helen [Lyle] Kendall, was born February 21, 1934 (s/b 1924) in Centerville, Iowa and died at his home in rural Grand River, Iowa on April 12, 2007. Bill grew up on a farm in rural Centerville. When he was 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Marines and served his country during World War II in the Pacific Islands. Following his honorable discharge, Bill lived in Des Moines, Iowa and worked for the telephone company for 16 years. Bill married Edith Irene Deemy on November 10, 1952 in Minnesota. One son, Kevin Janes "Casey" Kendall, was born to them. The family made their home in Des Moines, where Bill and Irene owned and operated the Kourt Kleen Laundry. They were in the laundry and dry cleaning business for 21 years. Bill and Casey had enjoyed hunting in Decatur County, so Bill and Irene bought land in rural Grand River. They have made their home there since retirement in May 1985. Bill liked to garden, especially growing and shelling peas. He and Casey fished together in earlier years. Bill liked visiting and socializing with his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Harry Kendall. Bill is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irene Kendall of rural Grand River; son Casey Kendall of Carlisle, Iowa; brother Carl Kendall of Albia, Iowa; sisters Virginia Clayworth and husband Edward of Centerville and JoAnn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and other relatives and friends. bill was loved by his family and will be missed.
