Hopkins Pottinger, was born in Creston, Iowa, January 31, 1913 and passed away at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines April 25, 1978. at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 26 days. Hopkins Pottinger, was born in Creston, Iowa, January 31, 1913 and passed away at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines April 25, 1978. at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 26 days. He was reared and lived all of his life in Prescott. He was interested in sports, and as a young man was very active in basketball. He graduated from the Prescott High School with the class of 1931. Since early childhood, he has been a member of the Prescott First Christian Church and has served as an elder of this church and the Prescott United Church. He was united in marriage with Charlotte Cole October 12. 1932 at the Methodist parsonage in Prescott with the Rev. Beers officiating. This marriage was blessed with the birth of three children. Collette, Joel, and Russine. On February 3. 1948 Lyle was raised to the degree of a Master Mason and was installed as the Worshipful Master of Circle Lodge #555 A.F. & A.M. on January 14. 1952. He and Charlotte were both active in helping to establish the Prescott Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and they have served as Worthy Matron and Patron of both the Corning Chapter and in the early days of the Prescott Chapter. Lyle truly believed in and lived every day he principals of the Order. He and Charlotte farmed near Prescott until he started working at Turner's Store in June of 1966. He loved this work, and the meeting, helping and visiting people who came into the store, but these traits were symbolic of the life he lived. Lyle not only loved his family and grandchildren, he not only loved young people, he loved everyone friend, neighbor or stranger who he met and he will be remembered for the kindnesses he did along the way. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Prescott; his son, Joel and his wife Deanna of Osage Beach, Missouri: his two daughters, Collette O'Brien and her husband Pat of Des Moines and Russine Morris and her husband Dick of Urbandale. Iowa: twelve grandchildren. Kelly and his wife Barb, Tim. Mike and his wife Judy, Tom, Tami, Teri, and Patricia O'Brien. Laura and Jeffry Pottinger and Rhonda, Rob and Randy Morris; two great-grandchildren. Blake and Joshua O'Brien, as well as other relatives and many, many friends. Funeral services were held at the Prescott United Church April 27 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Larry Davidson officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Prescott, Iowa.
