Description	:	William Allen was born in Tazewell county, Va., May 21, 1822 and died at his home in Wayne county, Iowa, Feb. 22, 1909. He was married to Lucinda Woodworth Dec. 13, 1849. To this union were born thirteen children, all of whom are living. The father was the first to be taken from this family of fifteen. Besides his wife and thirteen children he is survived by twenty-seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, one brother and one sister who mourn his death. Read More	William Allen was born in Tazewell county, Va., May 21, 1822 and died at his home in Wayne county, Iowa, Feb. 22, 1909. He was married to Lucinda Woodworth Dec. 13, 1849. To this union were born thirteen children, all of whom are living. The father was the first to be taken from this family of fifteen. Besides his wife and thirteen children he is survived by twenty-seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, one brother and one sister who mourn his death. From Indiana he and his wife moved to Wapello county this state and finally to this county (Wayne). His late home was entered from the government fifty-two years ago and he has been living there since it was entered. He was truly a pioneer and probably was more widely known than any man in this section of country. His life was characterized by a pleasantness and agreeableness that was quite noticeable by everyone who knew him. His last sickness which was of about two weeks duration was borne with patience and fortitude to the end. This man had the distinction of being the father of a truly remarkable family. Not many men can claim the honor of being the father of a family of thirteen children, twenty-seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, all living. His funeral was preached at his late home, Feb. 24th, by L. A. Johnson of the Allerton Christian church, internment in the Allerton cemetery.
