Thurs., Apr. 13, 1916 (pg 1) MF 071.8254, BAT Reel # 6, Norfolk Public Library --ANOTHER OLD SETTLER DEAD--William Bierman Passes Away Sunday at Home Near Battle Creek--Resicent of County Since 1875.-- William Bierman, one of Madison county's old settlers, died last Sunday morning at his home three miles north of Battle Creek after having suffered for some time with cancer of the liver. Funeral services were held at the German Lutheran church in Battle Creek at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, Pastor J. Hoffman officiating. Interment at the Lutheran cemetery south of town followed the church services. The deceased was about 67 years old, being born in Hanover, Germany, October 21, 1849. He came to the United States in 1868 and after a residence of three years in Illinois he located in Dakota county Nebraska, where he was married to Miss Mary Bonkusky. To this union four children were born, the three surviving being Mrs. Blaser Werner and Fred and William Bierman of Battle Creek. Mr. Bierman became a resident of Madison county in 1875 and after the death of his first wife he was married to Miss Anna Vonderohe of Pierce county April 22, 1883, who survives him. To this union eleven children were born, seven sons and four daughters, ten of whom survive: Mrs. Fred Praeuner, Mrs. Albert Gardels, Herman, John, Henry, Arthur, Ella, Leo, Paul and Elmer, all of Battle Creek. Mr. Bierman was a good provider and leaves a considerable estate to his family. We sympathize with his widow and children, and his friends and neighbors who mourn his departure. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. George Bates, Will Beirman, Herman Bierman, Fredrick Bierman, jr., Chas. Bierman, Berhardt Bolts, Lewis Bierman and William Oehlerking of Dakota City; Mrs. Lewis Dierking of Butte; Chas. Oehlerking of Crofton; Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Ziesche of Norfolk; "Uncle" Holtz, Mr. and Mrs. Warnicke; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vonderohe, sr., Mr. and Mrs. Emil Carstens, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tasch, Lydia, Alvina and Walter Vonderohe of Pierce; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vonderohe, jr., Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Vonderohe, and Mr. and Mrs. Christoph Vonderohe of Madison
