"Bill" Berglund, son of Melvin H. and Electa Sophia (Cook) Berglund, was born September 13, 1947, at Plainview, Nebraska. Bill passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital< Yankton, South Dakota. Bill grew up on the family farm located in Cleveland Township, east of Creighton, Nebraska, near the community of Midland. He was a raised in the Lutheran Faith, having been baptized and confirmed, and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Bazile Mills, Nebraska. Bill attended rural school near the family home, and later graduated from Creighton (NE.) High School with the Class of 1965. He was always a hard worker; besides working on the family farm, throughout high school, Bill worked for the Lawrence Condon family on their large cattle feeding and row crop operation on the south edge of Creighton, Nebraska. Upon receiving his education, Bill went to work construction for a time, building the new dormitories at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. On March 12, 1966, Bill was married to Carol Ann Stark at First Trinity Lutheran Church, Bloomfield, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with four children: Mark, Dawn, Kelley, and Michelle. Bill and Carol began their married life in Norfolk, Nebraska, where Bill worked for Shaffer Pontiac-Buick. The young family then moved to Crofton, Nebraska, where Bill worked for West Lumber Company, until being transferred to West's main lumberyard, which was located in Creighton, Nebraska. After a few years of being back in Creighton, Nebraska he went to work for Bob and Norma Morrill who operated Morrill Feed and Grain. Ever the worker and always one to venture into a new opportunity, Bill began working for Ralph Potter at Ralph's G.W. Market, Creighton, Nebraska. Bill always felt Ralph was a good employer and treated him well, but Bill's heart was in the feed and agricultural industry. So, after a good run with the Potter family, he accepted a position with Earl "Bill" Stokes, who operated Bill's Feed Service, which was the Kent Feeds store across the street. It was during this time working at Bill's Feed Service that Bill further honed his skills and interests in creating the perfect ration for area farmers, and forged many friendships with his clients. Bill's dream was to be in business for himself, and after many years of hard work and sacrifice, Bill and Carol's dream became a reality. On April 1, 1985, the Berglund family became owners of the feed and farm supply store in Winnetoon, Nebraska previously operated by Bruce Bennett, renaming the business "B & C Feed Service". For the rest of his life, Bill devoted his life to making the family business a success. B & C Feed Service was recognized numerous times for being one of the top sellers for the Supersweet Feeds brand (later Consolidated Nutrition, LLC). But the store was more than just a place to buy prepared feed; Bill put his years of experience to work, creating customized rations for his many customers, tailored to the needs of their livestock. Because of the overwhelming success of B & C Feed Service, and the desire to better serve their customers, Bill and Carol took a major leap in 1991, acquiring the feed, bulk fuel, and automotive repair service portion of the former Verdigre (NE.) Farmers Union Cooperative, renaming their new business Verdigre Farm Service. It was a major undertaking, but by purchasing the defunct co-op, farmers in Verdigre, Nebraska were able to continue to have a supplier in their own community. B & C Feeds and Verdigre Farm Service would grow to serve area farmers once again in the late 1990's, purchasing the assets and service territory of the Niobrara Oil Company and the Bristow Oil Company from Robert and Linda Crosley. For over 18 years, Bill and Carol operated Verdigre Farm Service, until selling the business to the Frank brothers of Verdigre, Nebraska. Although some would think that Bill would consider retirement after selling the business in Verdigre, Nebraska despite his recent illness, Bill and Carol continued to operate B & C Feed Service in Winnetoon, Nebraska. During his lifetime, Bill spent most of his time working to provide for his family and operating his businesses. Although he wasn't able to be involved in organizations and clubs, behind the scenes, Bill was a loyal supporter and sponsor of various town celebrations, high school sports broadcasts, and other activities. While living in Creighton, Nebraska he was very active with the fire department. Bill was very proud of his business, and the hundreds of customers that became lifelong friends. His outgoing personality and interest in people was the inspiration for countless conversations and friendships. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the store in Winnetoon, Nebraska which was "the hub" for all of the area farmers. But by far, Bill's greatest love was his family; they were his entire world. Bill cherished his time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and most recently, great-granddaughter Taiyana. Bill was a one-of-a-kind person who left a lasting impression on the world and anyone he met. He will dearly missed by all that knew and loved him. Bill's life and memory are forever cherished in this world by his family: wife of over 47 years, Carol Ann Berglund of Winnetoon, Nebraska; children, Mark Berglund of Shell Rock, Iowa, Kelley Berglund of Madison, Nebraska and Michelle Berglund of Madison, Nebraska; grandchildren, Travis (Courtney) Berglund of Omaha, Nebraska, Dalton Berglund of Shellrock, Iowa, Jamie Berglund of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kaitlyn Berglund of Lincoln, Hailey Berglund of Madison, Nebraska, Jordyn Berglund of Madison, Nebraska and Brent Berglund of Big Sky, Montana; great-granddaughter, Taiyana Reynolds of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters, Sharon (Duane) Schuttler of Ralston, Nebraska, and Marilyn Berglund and Kim of Fountain Hill, Arizona; brother, Richard (JoAnn) Berglund of Norfolk, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Christy Berglund of Creighton, Nebraska; father-in-law, Gordon Friesen of Forsyth, Missouri and a host of family and friends friends. Bill was greeted in Heaven by: daughter, Dawn Christine Berglund, who went ahead of Daddy in infancy; father and mother, Melvin and Electa Berglund; brother, Stan Berglund; mother-in-law, Arletha "Peggy" Friesen and nephews, Troy Schutler and Jarrod Mathine. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Creighton, Nebraska.
