He was born August 15, 1862. Since the death of his wife, Mary Rebecca Sheets Day, 1866–1918, Mr. Day had lived with a son, Edmond W. Day, June 20, 1889-January 8, 1939 and after the family dinner Monday noon, Day and his son, and Elmer Hunt all went to the home of Day's son-in-law about three miles distant. After arriving at the Brown home, Mr. Day went missing, and shortly thereafter a shot was heard, coming from the orchard. On investigation it was found that he had fired a shot through his head, using a .38 caliber revolver The shot was fired through the left ear and came out on the other side about two inches above his right ear. He was immediately taken into the Brown home, and a physician from Markle was called with death occurring more than an hour later. For twenty years, Day had suffered from lung trouble and this is believed to have caused the suicide. For many years he had wintered in Texas. Day is survived by a son, Edmond W. Day, June 20 1889-January 8, 1939; two daughters, Mrs. George (Ivy Blanche) Sloan May 22,1892 - September 31,1952; and Mrs. Jesse (Zola Enid) McClurg, December 16, 1887-October 21, 1969; all of south of Markle. Another daughter, Flora Ethel Day Brown, August 13, 1885-November 3, 1925, died last winter with typhoid fever. William was the son of Edmond and Sarah Day. J. R. Day of this city is a brother.
