Description	:	KEARNEY — William M. “Bill” Faber Jr., 85, of Gibbon died Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Read More	KEARNEY — William M. “Bill” Faber Jr., 85, of Gibbon died Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Gibbon is in charge of the arrangements. He was born on Dec. 3, 1931, in Juniata to William N. and Marcella C. (Weber) Faber. He grew up in Juniata and Gibbon and graduated from Gibbon High School in 1949. On Sept. 14, 1950, he entered the U.S. Navy and completed his basic training at Great Lakes, Ill. He was then stationed at Stockton, Calif., San Diego and Japan. During the Korean War, he served on the USS Leonard F. Mason. He was honorably discharged on July 13, 1954. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Gibbon to pursue his true passion: farming. William married Janet Moore on July 23, 1958, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton. The couple made their home in Gibbon where William continued to farm for over 50 years. In 1984, they opened Bill and Jan’s Restaurant and Lounge, which they operated until 1992. They then opened BJ’s Liquor, which closed in 2002. His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2001. William was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the American Legion and a past member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed reading, playing cards and most of all farming. He is survived by his children, Vicki Calhoun and husband John of North Platte and Steve Faber of Gibbon; a grandson, CinJin Faber of Norfolk; three sisters-in-law, JoAnn Everett and Judy Ganser, both of Holdrege, and Jackie Van Loh of Albuquerque, N.M.; nieces, Cindy Town and Pat Evans, both of Albuquerque; and many other nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, Jerene Beezy.
