Description	:	Son of Jesse Lewis (1800-1870) and Hanna DeWitt (1798-1861). Married on April 4, 1838, in Gallia Co., Ohio, to Sarah Clark, daughter of my ancestors, Thomas W. Clark, Jr. (1788-1847) and Betty Mary "Polly" Nida (1795-1831). William and Sarah had at least 13 children together. --------------- I appreciate the fact that someone added his obituary but the part of that obituary that has to do with him being over 100 is simply incorrect. His census records do not bear that out at all. He was recorded on the 1850 census record of Harrison twp., Gallia Co., Ohio, as 30 years of age, i.e., born about 1820. His 1st wife, Sarah, was listed as 1 year older than him at 31 years of age. And Sarah was born in 1819. In 1870 he was again listed on the census of Carroll twp., Lincoln Co., W. V., as having been born about 1820 as his age on the 1870 census was recorded as 50 (and his wife Sarah was again listed as 1 yr older than him at 51). In 1900 he was once again listed as born in 1820. April 1820 to be exact. That is how he was recorded on the 1900 census of Grant District, Cabell Co., W. V. In other words, when he passed away, he was 90 years, 6 months and 9 days of age at that time. Roughly 9 1/2 years short of 100 years of age. The one and ONLY census record of his which lists him as having been born prior to 1820 was his final census record, i.e., the 1910 census of Grant District, Cabell Co., W. V., where he was recorded (oddly) as 102 years of age. Twelve years earlier than all of his previous census records. Also his obituary mentions him as having been married three times yet his 1910 census record listed him as having been married only twice. First wife was Sarah Clark. Second wife was Matilda McDavid. I've found no record of a third wife and his 2nd wife was listed with him on the 1910 census as "Tilda" Lewis age 60 - just 6 months before he died.
