Description	:	Corydon Times Republican December 12, 1946 William Melvin Goughnour was born Jan. 11, 1871 in Van Buren county, near Stockport, Iowa. He was the eldest son of Jeremiah and Esther C. Goughnour. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary, and a brother, Howard, who died in early childhood. At this time Eva Meyers came to make this her home. Read More	Corydon Times Republican December 12, 1946 William Melvin Goughnour was born Jan. 11, 1871 in Van Buren county, near Stockport, Iowa. He was the eldest son of Jeremiah and Esther C. Goughnour. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary, and a brother, Howard, who died in early childhood. At this time Eva Meyers came to make this her home. One brother, Ed Goughnour of Allerton, survives. When he was a child the family moved to Allerton, where he has since resided. He was united in marriage on May 4, 1910 to Nellie Neill, who preceded him in death, August 8, 1946. He was the head of the Goughnour Monument Company, which is the oldest business firm in Allerton. He began working in his father's shop at the age of 14. As a young man he joined the Church of Christ in Allerton in March 1887. He was a faithful church worker all through the years, and served as an elder for at least 23 years. The home was made happy by two adopted sons: Walter, who was born Dec. 25, 1910, and who came in to the home in 1915. Guy, who was born Nov. 28, 1918, and entered their home in 1920. Mr. Goughnour died at his home on Dec. 2, having been in frail health for several years. He leaves to mourn his passing, his brother Ed Goughnour of Allerton; two sons, Walter E. Goughnour of Colfax, Iowa, and Guy M. Goughnour of Allerton. Four grandchildren: Darnell and Ella Mae Goughnour of Colfax, and David and Steven Goughnour of Allerton, a nephew Melvin, of Allerton, and many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from the First Church of Christ in Allerton, with burial in the Allerton cemetery. Rev. L.A. Johnson officiated. Pall bearers were: Lee Bracewell, Chris Meyers, Clair Dougherty, Don Duncan, Earl Perry and W.G. Robinson. Pianist was Mrs. Beavers. Note from contributor: His mother's maiden name was Esther Payne. Also I don't understand the reference to Eva Meyers in the obituary but left it exactly as printed.
