Description	:	WILLIAM M. WALTERS DEAD. While Viewing the Races at Worthing on July 3, W. M. Walters Was Killed By a Horse. Last Saturday afternoon Wm. M. Walters was at Worthing participating in the celebration, and being one interest ed in races was at the track with a large crowd viewing a horse race. Last Saturday afternoon Wm. M. Walters was at Worthing participating in the celebration, and being one interest ed in races was at the track with a large crowd viewing a horse race. Being at least 20 feet from the track, he undoubt edly deemed himself out of danger from any horses that might bolt the track. A horse rode by one of the Shanley boys came down the track in an unmanage able condition, and many were prepared for the bolt before it came. Mr. Walters was standing near a buggy and as the horse struck him in the breast, he fell backward cutting his skull, which is supposed to have removed all conscious ness of any pain. Upon falling to the ground the horse stepped on his abdo men. He lived for an hour and a half, but did not regain consciousness. Medi cal aid could not assist him. A coroner's jury was impannelled to investigate into the causes which led to this sad end but the first jury failed to return a verdict. Mr. Walters was born in Kentucky about 59 years ago, and has been a resi dent of this state for 25 years, He in listed in the service of Uncle Sam, for which he never received any pension. After arriving in South Dakota from Missouri, Mr. Walters first wife died leaving two daughters, both of whom are now married and live in Lincoln county. By his second wife be leaves four boys, Mayfield, aged 13 William, aged 11 Frank, aged 8 and Lester, age 3 months. A more honorable man never lived than he who now has crossed the mysterious river and a chair is left vacant which will ever be cherished for the love and respect which a man of his character and habits was bound to demand from all who bore bis acquaintance. Since his arrival in Lincoln county his home has been in LaValiey township, he having acquired five quarters in this and two in Union county, besides a large amount of other property, so those fatherless boys will not want. Our first admiration for the deceased was formed during his ad ministration in behalf of the fatherless Swanson children. The funeral cere mony was preached by Rev. Coate in the Congregational Church, Tuesday, at 11:30 a. m. and the remains laid away in Forest Hill Cemetery to await the coming of the Lord when no man will have a larger page of credits than our deceased friend.
