SHAPPELL Holyoke Man Dies In Denver Hospital From Cancer After Long Illness Funeral services were conducted in Holyoke Saturday afternoon for William Marion Shappell, Holyoke resident, who died Wednesday afternoon in the Colorado General Hospital in Denver, where he had been a patient several weeks. Death was due to cancer of the lip, an ailment with which he had been afflicted several months. He was 64 years, 10 months and 12 days old. Rev. William Pepper, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, conducted the service at the Colver Brothers Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock. Mrs. A.W. McFadden sang two song, "Oh, Happy Day" and "Rock of Ages" with Mrs. W.S. Young playing the accompaniment. Burial was made in the Holyoke cemetery. Serving as the pallbearers were William P. Schulz, Ed Brandes, Dave Masten, A.R. Church, Rufus Dike and C.V. Mills. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Williams and children and Mrs. John Sievers of Norton, Kansas, Mrs. Ruth Shappell and children of Laird, and Mrs. Esther Black, Mrs. May Dickson and Donald Tupper of North Platte, Nebraska. Deceased was born July 12, 1874 at Knoxville in Marion County, Iowa. When he was five years old, he moved with his parents to Minden County in Nebraska, and lived there until 17 years ago, when he and his family located in Phillips County. He was married to Miss Matilda Holmberg at Kearney, Nebraska March 15, 1897. He affiliated with the United Brethren church when he was 19 years old, and remained a member of that religious order throughout the remainder of his life. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Matilda Shappell, of Holyoke; one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Williams of Norton, Kansas; six grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Bernadina Nelson of Orleans, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by two sons, a daughter and four brothers and sisters.
